Test Detail: Catecholamines & their fractions like Epinephrine, Norepinephrine and Dopamine are chemical agents from nerve cells which play an important role in your body's response to stress. High levels cause high blood pressure with symptoms of headache, sweating, pounding of the heart & anxiety. This test is used for screening for Catecholamine secreting tumors like Neuroblastoma & other Neural crest tumors. These tumors usually arise in the adrenal gland in your body. This test is conducted on a 24 hour urine sample. Sample Type: URINE Instruction: Patient should strictly avoid Alpha-one blockers, Aminophylline, Amphetamines, Ampicillin, Beta-blockers, Ephedrine, Imipramine, Methyldopa, MAO inhibitors, Nicotine, Phenacetin, Phenothiazine, Theophylline, Vasodilators, Aspirin, PAS, Alpha-2 agonists, Bromocriptine, Calcium channel blocke( long term use), Clofibrate, MAO inhibitors, Propranolol, Penicillin, Reserpine, Thyroxine, Alpha-methyldopa, Isoproterenol, Labetalol, Mandelamine, Paracetamol, Cimetidine, Metoclopramide, vigorous exercise, alcoholic beverages, tea/coffee and tobacco at least 72 hours before and during specimen collection.
